  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Welcome back!

Welcome home, cookie puss! Sounds like such a fun trip (I used to make those rounds quite regularly myself when I was a wee Reedie, living the wet life in Portland). Tell us more!

I am looking forward to hearing about your trip. I'm moving to Portland in 3 weeks, and can't wait for the camping adventures. So - give reviews & recommendations, please!

I'll work on a long post tonight. Promise.

Amy, I'm jealous of your move! I went camping in Washington state, but can definitely recommend some spots. I'll include specifics.

It was nice to be offline for a week, but it's equally nice to be back.

Great photo. Glad you had fun.

I'm just living vicariously through other people's vacations lately.

Still fun though!

:)

I went to Astoria, too! Different Astoria, though... mine was in Queens :)

Washington and Oregon are amazing! Thanks for posting the pictures for us to all enjoy.

Welcome home and back to laundry hell. :)
